WHAT'S IN THIS STUFF? A CLOSER LOOK AT OUR SHAVE CREAM

When we set out to create our shave cream, we tried to start with almost no assumptions about what a shave cream should be. Instead, we began with a question, "What are the problems that come with shaving, and how could a product fix them?"

After lots of research, and one-on-one interviews, we landed on this: Friction is the problem. And a great shave cream first and foremost should help drastically reduce razor drag. Secondly, a good shave cream should help replenish any of the moisture lost from the act of shaving, leaving the skin smooth and supple.

That was how we got started formulating our award-winning Shave Cream. And, after countless hours and rounds of testing, we finally landed on a product that we think is about as good as they come.

Check out the ingredients list below to learn not only what's in our Shave Cream, but why.

  • Water: Plain and simple, H2O.
  • Steric Acid: A natural fatty acid used as a cleansing and emulsifying agent.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate:  A cleansing and emulsifying agent used in cleansers and creates a rich lather and foam. While it sounds like the rather notorious Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, this ingredient is a much gentler and skin-safe ingredient
  • Myristic Acid: Also known as tetradecanoic acid, myristic acid is an organic fatty acid used as a lubricant in soap forms that is deeply absorbed by the skin.
  • Glycerin: A humectant compound found in vegetable and animal fats. It works as a protective layer to moisturize the skin by attracting water from the air to the skin. Our glycerine comes from vegetables only.
  • Potassium Hydroxide: A compound that weakens the hair, which allows the hair to be cut down easily by a razor blade. It is also used as a pH adjuster.
  • Cetyl Alcohol: A natural-occurring ingredient that helps prevent mixtures of oils and liquids from separating. It allows the product to have a consistent and smooth texture.
  • Glyceryl Stearate: A lipid used as a surfactant and emulsifying agent that is used to lift and remove dirt. It also helps to stabilize other ingredients in the formulation and keeps them from separating.
  • PEG-100 Stearate: A polyethylene glycol ester of stearic acid that is used as a surfactant and cleansing agent.
  • Avocado Oil: Avocado oil is filled with rich antioxidant and omega-3 fatty acids. Beneficial in treating wounds, sunburns, and dry skin, this oil penetrates and spreads nutrients deep into the skin.
  • Jojoba Seed Oil: A natural skin emollient, cleanser and very effective lubricant. It absorbs quickly into the skin and opens the pores to help other ingredients penetrate the skin. Also known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties, it helps to soothe and soften the skin.
  • Tea Tree Leaf Oil: Extracted through steam distillation of twigs and leaves of the tea tree. This extract is known to help relieve and eliminate acne. It has also been known to lighten the appearance of scars and blemishes.
  • Glycereth-2 Cocoate: An ester of coconut acid, glycereth-2 cocoate is a surfactant (cleansing) and emulsifying agent.
  • Sunflower Seed Oil: Also known as Helianthus annuus, this oil is a skin-conditioning agent and emollient with a natural moisturizer packed with naturally skin-nourishing vitamin E.
  • White Grapefruit Peel Oil: A sweet and citrusy essential oil that helps reduce the presence of unwanted microbial activity. It is also used to support minor pain and inflammation relief.
  • Bergamot Fruit Oil: An essential oil with a sweet, citrusy scent that is extracted from the bergamot orange. You may also know it as the flavor that gives Earl Grey tea its unique aroma.
  • Mandarin Orange Peel Oil: An essential oil that is extracted from the peel of the mandarin orange. It is used to treat scars and acne and is a good toner for oily skin.
  • Spearmint Leaf Oil: An essential oil obtained from Mentha leaves that boosts circulation while providing an invigorating aroma.
  • Polyquaternium-10, Glycol Distearate: Enhances and improves the look and feel of damaged hair by increasing suppleness. It also prevents static electricity in hair.
  • Benzoic Acid: A naturally occurring and synthetically produced substance that is used as a preservative in various cosmetic products
  • Gingergrass Leaf Oil: A sharp, warm, woody essential oil that is used to calm nerves and enhance mental energy. This oil is often used in massages to soothe muscles and pain.
  • Sweet Almond Oil: An essential oil that is extracted from the seed kernels of the sweet almond plant. Light in texture, it is often used as a skin-conditioning agent.
  • Canola Oil: A low erucic acid vegetable oil that can be used as an emollient for skin conditioning.
  • Coriander Fruit Oil: An essential oil obtained from the dried fruit of Coriandrum sativum. It helps to clarify the skin and combat oily skin.
