What's in this stuff? A guide to our Formula 5 Multipurpose Oil

We all know it's a good idea to check the labels before putting food in our bodies. It's also a good idea to see what's in a product before putting it on your body. As with all of our offerings, we are happy to tell you exactly what is in our Formula 5 Multipurpose Oil and why it's in there. 

As for why we created this magical potion that's literally great for everything from styling your beard to smoothing your elbows, we're happy to tell you that story too. 

But for now, we'll stick to the ingredients: 

Here's what makes up Formula 5 (in descending order)

Cyclopentasiloxane:

Also known as D5, this non-greasy, odorless silicone is used for its lubricating properties. It gives your hair and skin a silky feeling, but it quickly evaporates and therefore is not absorbed by the skin.

Cyclohexasiloxane:

This silicone improves the texture of our formula and helps the ingredients be evenly distributed. It also acts as a protective barrier for the skin, keeping in moisture, and keeping out dirt and pollution.

Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil:

An oil obtained from pressed sunflower seeds, it is rich in Vitamin E and linoleic acid. Linoleic acid helps your skin retain moisture, keeping it hydrated for a longer period of time. Sunflower oil also has anti-inflammatory properties when used topically.

Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil:

Meadowfoam Seed Oil is used as an emollient to help lock in moisture, acting as a protective barrier over your skin. It is known for not leaving your skin or hair feeling greasy after application.

Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil:

This oil is chock full of fatty acids which, together with Vitamin E, help prevent dryness and boost shine.The fatty acids also help protect hair from damage from heat, grooming, and other stressors. Additionally, argan oil has anti-inflammatory properties.

Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil:

Apricot kernel contains linoleic and oleic acids which help to lock in moisture and absorb small amounts of moisture from the air’s humidity. It is great for overall scalp health because it is rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin A and Omega 3. Vitamin E and Omega 3 provide a protective barrier for the skin. Vitamin A promotes cell rejuvenation and the production of collagen.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil:

It’s not only good for eating! Olive Oil is packed with antioxidants, which protect the skin against damage. It contains squalene, which is an ingredient that has incredible hydrating properties. Olive Oil is also rich in Vitamin A, D, K, and E.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter:

It has anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce scalp irritation. It is also packed with Vitamin A, E, and fatty acids. Fatty acids help increase shine and reduce frizz.

Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter:

Extracted from the seeds of a Brazilian Palm, Murumuru Butter works as an emollient, helping lock in moisture in the skin.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride:

Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, this helps give Formula 5 its luxurious texture, but it is mainly used to maintain the moisture of the skin and hair.

Litchi Chinensis (Lychee) Fruit Extract:

Rich in antioxidants, lychees also contain small amounts of copper, which recent studies have found that stimulate the growth of dermal papilla cells. Dermal papilla cells aid the development of hair follicles.

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil:

A light, non-greasy oil with anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.

Macadamia Integrifolia (Macadamia) Oil:

It penetrates the hair more efficiently than other oils while also preventing build up. Macadamia oil infuses the hair with loads of fatty acids, which moisturize the hair and give it a deep shiny appearance.

Tocopherol:

Vitamin E is known for its antioxidant properties which helps protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. It also helps protect the hair by creating a protective layer that protects it from breakage and loss of moisture.
